Building a new community - step by step

With construction at Waverley Advanced Manufacturing Park (AMP) already underway and the Highfield Commercial district cleared for development, the commercial elements of the site are spearheading Waverley’s transformation. The residential areas of the site, along with its supporting community facilities, are due to be completed in phases over the next 20 years. By 2030 this fully integrated 21st-century community will be complete.

Commercial beginnings

The site for the Waverley AMP has been restored and development is well advanced. Many units are already in place on the 40-hectare park, which is now home to a clutch of world-class research and manufacturing companies. When completed, the AMP is expected to provide more than 1,000 jobs.

Adjoining the AMP is Highfield Commercial, an area of 15 hectares (37 acres) which will provide 60,000m² of office space, as well as ancillary retail and leisure space, car parking and a hotel.

New town takes shape

The creation of a complete new community at Waverley is planned over four super-phases. Distinctive character areas will form the residential district, with associated community services, shopping areas, parks and schools, until the town is unified into a single integrated community.

2010-2012:

Phase one will create the first residential areas adjacent to Catcliffe and at the northern end of Highwall Park. These new homes will make the initial physical and social connections between the emerging new community and the established settlements surrounding the development.

Once outline planning has been granted a full detailed planning programme will be finilised and published.
