Consultative Events - Transformation proposals for former coke works shown to locals

Plans to transform a former coke works and mining site in South Yorkshire into a high quality residential and employment site are on show for the public to view.

The multi-million pound proposals by UK Coal will be clarified through a series of consultation events over the next four months.

UK Coal wants to redevelop the former open cast site in Waverley into a sustainable high density mixed use community, including approximately 4,000 houses, community facilities and green areas.

Planning permission has already been granted for the Advanced Manufacturing Park and Highfield Commercial. The residential development forms the third planning application on this land. A separate planning application for a large office development for government workers at the site is also proposed.

UK Coal has organised a series of public events for communities living near the 741-acre Waverley Community site, and has plans to provide schools, a health centre and other community facilities as part of the development.

Consultative events are taking place at Orgreave, Treeton, Tinsley, Handsworth, Catcliffe, Darnall, Woodhouse and Aston, with meetings going through to July.
